White Columns is proud to present a solo exhibition of works on paper by Robert Kitchen (1949-2009) organized by writer and curator Vince Aletti. About the exhibition Aletti has said: “Robert was a painter who also collaborated with his twin brother, Richard, on designs for linens, fine china, and other household products. After graduating from Philadelphia’s Tyler School of Art, he moved to New York, where, in the mid-1980s, he was included in group shows at the Sidney Janis Gallery and had solo exhibitions at the Stefanotti and Diane Brown galleries. He put painting aside to focus on his design work but returned to it at the end of the ‘90s. Although he had solo shows at Daniel Reich and Kagan Martos, much of the work he did after the turn of the new century was never exhibited, and his last solo outing, at Jeffrey Deitch in 2004, could only hint at the range of the paintings and drawings stacked up in his studio. At White Columns we will present a small sampling of that sprawling body of work - a group of paintings and drawings whose subjects were drawn from film, storybook illustration, a vivid imagination, and life.” http://www.arthaps.com/day/Monday/March/03/2014/in/Greenwich_Village_and_The_West_Village — with Vince Aletti in United States. also see http://www.wsimagazine.com/uk/diaries/agenda/arts/robert-kitchen_20140311142637.html#.UyL5Ezm9vup
